American Legion awards scholarship

Lindale — American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 presented its annual American Legion School Award scholarship to Kylon M. Kincade, an honor graduate of Lindale High School, at the post's monthly meeting. The competitive scholarship is awarded based on four criteria: character and leadership, community service, academic achievement, and a written essay.

Kincade graduated with a 3.9 GPA and served as vice president of the National Honor Society. He was twice named the Lindale Rotary Club's "Male Student of the Year." His activities and honors include serving on the Texas Bank & Trust student board, participating in multiple athletics, and competing as an All-State band member, where he led the Lindale High School band's trumpet section. As an officer of the speech and debate team, he advanced to the state championship and placed in several other speech competitions.

Kincade was selected to receive the American Legion School Award, which includes a $1,200 scholarship toward his studies at the University of North Texas in Denton.

He attended the post's business meeting with his mother and sister, where he thanked Legion members for the honor. Kincade said he plans to attend law school and hopes to one day represent Texas' 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The American Legion is the nation's largest veterans service organization, with more than 1.6 million members. It strengthens communities through programs, service and veterans advocacy.
