City council approves annexation, park improvements

Lindale—The Lindale City Council addressed annexation, infrastructure upgrades and park improvements during its Feb. 17 meeting.

A public hearing was held to receive comments regarding the voluntary annexation of a 2-acre property located at 13765 County Road 463. Following the hearing, council members approved an ordinance formally annexing the property into the city.

Council also approved Change Order No. 1 from Capps Capco Construction Inc. for work related to the Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Lindale Police Department presented its annual traffic contact report during the meeting. Capt. Chambers explained that the report is submitted to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

In transportation matters, council approved an ordinance establishing a 40 mph speed limit for East Centennial Boulevard. City Manager Carolyn Caldwell said Smith County has approved the same speed limit for its portion of the roadway.

Council also approved a resolution authorizing continued participation with the steering committee of cities served by Oncor.

Several park-related items were discussed. Council approved the installation of additional chain-link fencing around the new building at Pool Park to enhance security and manage parking. An agenda item concerning baseball field lighting at Pool Park was tabled and not discussed. Potential repairs to the Pavilion at Pool Park were discussed, but no action was taken.

Council approved repairs to playground equipment at Faulkner Park.

In other business, council approved the Boots on the Ground 5K/Fun Run at Darden Park, organized by Vettes for Vets and Christmas Command.

Lindale News was formally approved as the City of Lindale’s official newspaper.

Council approved excused absences for Councilman Bryan Summerville for Feb. 3 and Feb. 17 meetings and for Councilman Greg Kilgore for the Feb. 3 meeting.

Members also approved the January 2026 expenditure and financial reports and approved minutes from the Feb. 3 meeting with a minor amendment.
