Lindale News to change print format in cost-saving move

Staff Report

Lindale—The Lindale News will soon appear in a new, smaller print format as part of a cost-saving effort aimed at ensuring the long-term future of the newspaper.

Beginning with next week’s edition, the paper will shift from a traditional broadsheet format, the large, full-size newspaper style, to a commuter tabloid format, which is smaller, easier to handle and less expensive to produce.

The change affects the paper’s size, not its coverage.

Rambler Texas Media’s goal is simple: reduce production costs so we can continue publishing the Lindale News and serving the community.

What’s changing — and what’s not

Broadsheet newspapers are the largest common print format, typically folded in half and opened wide across a table or lap. While familiar to many longtime readers, broadsheets require larger, more costly equipment to print.

The commuter tabloid format uses smaller pages, roughly half the size of a broadsheet, making the paper easier to read on the go.

Despite the name, a tabloid format does not refer to sensational content. The reporting, editing standards and commitment to local news remain the same.

A move driven by rising costs

Like many local newspapers across the country, the Lindale News has faced rising expenses tied to printing, paper and distribution. Rambler Texas Media said the format change is part of a broader effort to adapt while keeping a printed newspaper available to readers.

By lowering printing costs, the company said it can reinvest resources into covering local government, schools, businesses and community events.

Designed for today’s readers

The commuter tabloid format is widely used by community and metro newspapers and is designed to be easier to carry, flip through and read in shorter sittings.

Rambler Texas Media emphasized that readers will still find the same sections, local bylines and community focus in a more compact package.
